On February  9,2016 School Based had a meeting about ‘FAFSA’. We talked  about how FAFSA can help students who come from low-income families and who qualifies to apply . First, Betsy introduced herself and Willy spoke about who they are and the Americorps program. Secondly, they  to FAFSA introduces, we have to complete it all the years one plans to attend.  In the icebreaker, Betsy and Willy planned a game. Willy separated the students in 5 or 6  groups each one with 6 people and he gave numbers at the end. They gave 5 names of universities for each group and a paper that the group had to fill out. The universities are :Montclair, Rutgers, Kean ,TCNJ, and Seton Hall. Third, Willy went to the FAFSA website and he showed us  step by step how to properly fill out the FAFSA application. Later on, Betsy talked about. The book explains everything a college board book called “Get it together for college.” Student needs to know about the college admissions process and filling out financial aid for college. At the end, the group 5 won the competition.

2ND FLOOR Speaks

On January 22, 2016 the leadership team of Got Heart, from School Based, hosted an awareness campaign on the services offer at 2nd floor. We were talking with  students from Perth Amboy High School and we were also informing them about the benefits of the 2ND FLOOR, such as, how the 2ND FLOOR floor can help students with any problems.  For example, family problems, bullying, and addictions. There are more opportunities that the organization supported by the state of NJ  offers to person who really need it. Also, we  let informed them  that the people who work with the 2ND FLOOR will always be there for them and  give a helping hand to those people in need.  They will encourage them to be better and overcome their ups and downs in life. Our goal is always to offer a helping hand and help them with anything that they need and to have a better life in the future.

Cristal Genao: Asked students if they were interested in hearing about what 2nd floor was all about.

Christopher Ferreira:  Chris  helped motivate the students to call 2nd floor to express their feelings and problems at any time.

Karla Almazar: She stated that  you can call 2nd floor to talk about your feelings.

Martina De La Rosa: She informed the students that  you can call 2nd floor if you have any problems.

Paola Tejada: She stated that it is for all types of help and it is free.

Student Report: 2ND Floor Meeting

2ND FLOOR Meeting

On  January 19, 2016 School  Based  had a meeting with members of the leadership team “Got Heart” where we had an encounter with Lisa P. from the  “2ND FLOOR” organization. She educated us on how the organization works, how it was funded and what its  purpose is to try to help anyone who reached out to them with any kind of circumstance. She emphasized how the organization could be contacted via text or a phone call. After speaking about the “2ND FLOOR”  organization she talked about some ways awareness the campaigns could be promoted. For example, hanging posters around the schools where the students could see them and announcing it through the loudspeakers once a month. Thanks to this presentation the members of “Got Hearth” heart were enlightened  on how access when there is a student going through a hard situation, such as  bullying.
